From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
Bethel Christian Academy exists for the purpose of training children to become disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot do this task alone, so we rely on the parents to fulfill their role as well as possible, establishing the foundation and direction of right teaching. However, the benefits that any of our children receive from attending Bethel come as a result of the Word of God. The Bible makes the difference at Bethel. Following Jesus Christ cannot happen without the Bible. The fact that Bethel teaches and implements the Bible with your children ought to be the primary reason for sending your children to Bethel.
Think about the words of Jesus. In Matthew 4:4 Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Every aspect of our lives should be guided by what the Bible says. And we know that the Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light unto our path. As our children learn the Bible in chapel, in Bible class, in one-on-one conversations, they learn how to order their steps through life righteously.
The Bible also is useful for cleansing. David gave instruction in Psalm 119:9: “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” The Word of God teaches a young person how he can get things right when he has done something wrong. All of us, including children, are sinners and all of us get off track. But rather than stay astray, the Lord wants us to align with Him, and the Bible teaches us how to do that. When your children learn the Bible, they learn the right way in life, and they also learn how to gain spiritual cleansing when they go the wrong way.
Finally, and most importantly, your children learn the way of salvation at Bethel because the Bible is taught. The apostle Paul reminded young Timothy of the advantages he had as a child learning the holy Scriptures: he said they are able to make one wise unto salvation. “And that from a child thou has known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (II Timothy 3:15). Hearing the right way of salvation again and again gives students a wonderful opportunity to receive Jesus Christ by faith.
Most schools either do not teach the Bible at all or they teach wrong things about the Bible, and both are damaging. Public schools hold the Bible off limits. In fact, today’s politically correct climate punishes students and teachers alike for bringing up the Bible. The result is secular humanism. Instead of God being King, man is king. Many so-called Christian schools teach wrong things about the Bible, including a wrong way of salvation.
The most important aspect of your child’s education is learning the truth. Without it, we are lost in the darkness of sin. And at Bethel, your children are able to learn the truth of God’s Word.
Sincerely,
Pastor Sutton
