The Gospel

                                              From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

No message in the world is more important than the gospel. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” The reason Paul was not ashamed of the gospel is because it is God’s divine power that brings about eternal salvation.

Man’s greatest need is to be saved. His greatest problem is sin. The only solution that solves our sin problem and brings salvation is the gospel. Paul knew what the gospel, and only the gospel, could do to make men right with God, to restore the broken relationship between God and man, to give eternal life, and to allow man to fulfill his purpose in life, which is to glorify God. Paul knew that the only means of bringing about these realities is the gospel. As a result, he was not ashamed of it. He preached this good news of salvation everywhere he went.

The gospel is great, but the gospel only saves when one believes it, and only the gospel message saves. In other words, if a gospel message is different from what the Bible teaches, then it is not the gospel and therefore has no power to save. We know from Scripture that there are other gospel messages. Paul warned the Galatians in chapter 1 verses 6-9 about other gospels being preached. In verses 6 and 7 Paul says,

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto
another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the
      gospel of Christ.”

There are other gospels that are a different kind of gospel than what the Bible teaches. These are not the gospel. The gospel gets perverted in two major ways: 1) by changing the nature of Jesus and 2) by adding works to grace. If a gospel message teaches that Jesus is any other being than the eternal Son of God come in the flesh, then that message is no longer the gospel. If a person or group teaches that someone must do good works (obey the Bible) to get saved or to stay saved, teaching that one can lose his salvation, then they teach a false gospel. Many others perversions exist.

I bring all of this up for two reasons: 1) to stress the importance of believing the right gospel, and 2) to stress the importance of declaring and preserving the right gospel. It is imperative to believe the right gospel to be saved. It is also imperative for churches to carefully preserve the right gospel and to faithfully preach the right gospel so that others might be saved and so that God will be glorified.

                                                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                                                  Pastor Sutton
