From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
Often in our society when we think about the education of children, we think about schools. While it is true that schools have much to do with education children, the education of children has its foundations in the home. The core values children receive in the home shape the outcome of their schooling, and the home is to be rightly influenced by the church. While we as a school do much to help you in the education of your children, we can only support what you do in the home.
Part of how you develop your children’s values comes by your conversation. What you talk about in the home shows what you value, and what you value is what you will talk about. What you talk about with your children becomes what they are familiar with, and the way you talk about it serves to influence the way they think about the topics you bring up.
For instance, if you talk about baseball and baseball players, your children will become familiar with baseball and baseball players, and they will probably become interested in the sport as a result. If you talk about politics, they will become familiar with politics and will begin to develop political ideas based on how you shape their thinking.
While there are a lot of subjects that we can talk about, there is one that we must talk about, and that is the Bible. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 say that as parents we are to talk about God’s Word throughout the day with our children, so that they come to love and keep His Word. Talking about the Bible includes explaining it and applying it.
Talking about Scripture at home helps familiarize your children with Bible stories and Bible doctrine. It helps them comprehend certain things about the Bible, and it also shows them that you value it and that you expect them to do the same. Not talking about it shows the opposite of all of this.
As a school we want to provide a good education for your children, but the foundation should start at home.
Sincerely,
Pastor Sutton
