From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
Thank you for all that you did to help out with Grandparent’s Day last Friday. It was a great day. I always enjoy spending time with the families, chatting and getting to know them. We had so much food—it was a blessing. Thank you to the ladies who helped to organize and serve the lunch. The grandparents enjoyed their time here and appreciated the effort that so many made.
Now we set our sights on the Read-A-Thon. This is one of our two major fundraisers during the school year. Starting October 8 (which happens to be a holiday), students can read and have their reading count towards raising money for the school. In fact, we will designate one hour of each school day during these two weeks just for Read-A-Thon reading. The children can bring something comfortable to sit in and do some leisure reading in class. That’s almost like having an extra recess!
The way it works is that students get sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money for each page they read during the two-week span. At the end of the Read-A-Thon, students contact their sponsors and collect the money pledged to them. If the amount turns out to be more than what the sponsor expected, he can give a flat donation. Students then turn in their money by October 29. Not only do students do a lot of reading, and not only do they raise money for the school, but they also get rewarded for their efforts. Once they raise $50, they get as a prize 10% of what they raise.
If each student gets just ten sponsors, and each sponsor pledges an average of $20, that’s $200. We have sixty-four students. Multiplied out, the Read-A-Thon would generate over $12,000!
We will send home a flyer this week as well as a sponsor sign-up sheet. Let’s go for it! Let’s read, and let’s make the Read-A-Thon a huge success.
Sincerely,
Pastor Sutton
