From The Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
Sometimes our children do things and end up having something negative happen to them that we hope gets their attention. Often we will say, “Did you learn your lesson?” They need to know that actions have consequences, but when those consequences happen, we want them to turn their attention to the right way. We want them to pay attention to what is happening and learn their lesson.
God often brings situations into our lives that we might look at as negative, but He wants us to learn that sin has consequences and that we need to turn our attention to Him and live for Him. Sometimes these situations pertain to our health or to an accident or injury; sometimes they pertain to our loved ones. The Lord wants us to pay attention to what is happening and turn our attention to Him.
The Lord did this with the Children of Israel in the Old Testament. Numerous times the Lord allowed physical calamities to Israel, not because He hated them, but because He loved them. Over and over they knew the right response to make toward the Lord, but they resisted His leading, and they wasted the opportunity the Lord gave them to turn to Him.
Let me encourage you to heed the circumstances in your life. Positive things that happen to a person do not necessarily mean that he is right with God, just as negative thigns do not necessarily mean that he is not right with God (cf. James 5:5; Job 1:1). At the same time, the Lord could be working in your life to get your attention so that you consider His Word and receive His way. Allow the Lord to do His work to get our attention.
Sincerely,
Pastor Sutton
