From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
One of the great aspects of Bethel Christian Academy is that we can freely teach our students the truth about Creation. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Right off the bat, God tells us the nature of origins, both in design and in Designer.
The word created translates the Hebrew verb bara, which has the idea of bringing into existence that which before did not exist. Often when we explain creation, we say that God created ex nihilo, out of nothing. Only God can do this. Being made in the image of God, man has creative aptitude; but at best man can only shape or fashion raw materials already in existence.
What God created, according to this verse, was the heaven and the earth. Heaven refers to space and earth refers to matter. Before creation space did not exist, and neither did the corporeal universe. God brought them into existence on Day 1 of creation. God created space and matter and then tabulated their existence with time, even as the verse says “in the beginning.” So we see in verse 1 the origin of time, space, and matter, the three entities that in a foundational way characterize creation.
Genesis 1 goes onto say that God spoke into existence light; the earth’s atmosphere; the sun, moon, and stars; plant life; animal life; and then on Day 6 God formed man out of the dust of the ground. We conclude from this founding chapter that the earth did not originate from an explosion and life did not evolve from chemicals colliding in a very deep ocean after a horrendously long rain storm. Furthermore, the life cycle did not develop from fish, to frogs, to monkey, to man. God created the heaven and the earth and all that is therein.
A question one might ask is this: “when was the beginning?” Evolution says it was somewhere around 13.8 billion years ago. In other words, evolutionists believe in a very old earth. But a faithful reading of Scripture reveals a relatively young earth, a little more than 6,000 years old, with creation week extending through six 24-hour days.
Evolution has many scientific contradictions, and it certainly is rife with Biblical contradictions. Evolution produces a worldview that devalues the dignity of man; reduces or removes the presence of God; disregards the goodness, power, and wisdom of God; and rebels against the Lordship of God, none of which are good outcomes.
Unfortunately, most school children in this country learn evolution and never receive a fair presentation from the Bible about creation. At Bethel Christian Academy your children have the privilege of learning the truth about origins so that they might praise and magnify the God who created them.
Sincerely,
Pastor Sutton
