From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
Thank you for attending Back-To-School Night on Friday. I thought we had a good meeting in the auditorium with the parents, and the teachers enjoyed the time with their parents in the classrooms. Today, I want to reiterate a few of the points we talked about as a group in the auditorium.
First, we want to emphasize better attendance from our students this year. Please work at having your students here on time. We have too many students who are tardy. School starts at 8:30. When students enter the classroom late, the classroom flow gets interrupted, late students must scramble to get their things in order, and often they miss important announcements or instruction. I know that exceptional situations happen, but overall, please work at being on time.
Also, we have too many students absent for too many days. Again, I understand exceptional situations—fevers, the flu, family emergencies. But if students can be in school, they should be. Please do your best to schedule vacations during school vacation time, and please note the date of your child’s school programs so you and your family can attend.
Second, we are glad to have our parents around, enjoying the school with their children. But one of the things we need to adjust is parents’ coming into the classroom at the start of the day. I know that parents mean well, but what we have found as our school has grown in numbers is that when parents help their children unpack and get ready for the day, they talk; and when parents talk, children talk. The room gets loud and it takes us longer to get the day started. So if you would, feel free to drop your child off at the door, and the teacher can take it from there.
Third, we sent home order forms last week for the new culottes. Please return those order forms and a check tomorrow if you wish to place an order. Girls from third grade on up will need culottes for PE class. If you already have a pair of loose-fitting culottes that you bought from Bethel, you are not required to order a new pair. But the volleyball team will be wearing the new design, so all volleyball girls need to get them.
I am looking forward to the new school year. We had a good first week, and I am excited about the rest the year to come.
Sincerely,
Pastor Sutton
