                                                                From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

We had a great preaching conference these last few days.  The theme of this year’s conference, the gospel, is of utmost importance and is foundational to all other understanding of doctrine and practice.  Thursday morning Pastor Brandenburg taught on the significance of Jesus as the Christ.  Friday morning, Pastor and two other men spoke about how they see the gospel’s being perverted in our culture and even around the world.  Saturday morning Missionary Jerry Wilhite taught on Jesus as Savior.

The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (I Corinthians 15:3-4).  It is the good news that we can be saved from our sins to live a life that glorifies Jesus Christ by believing who He is and by trusting alone in what He did.  Sadly, most people pay little attention to what the Bible teaches the gospel is and how to receive it.  Even though the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, most do not examine themselves to see if the gospel they trust is the one the Bible teaches or if it is another gospel, a different gospel than what saves (Galatians 1:6-7).

For instance, the gospel that teaches that Jesus is not fully divine, God in the flesh, is not the gospel (cf. John 8:24).  The gospel that teaches a person must obey the commands of Scripture in addition to believing in Jesus to be saved is not the gospel (cf. Romans 11:6; Galatians 5:2-4).  The gospel that teaches a person can lose his salvation is not the gospel (cf. John 10:28-30).

Regardless of what one believes, there is only one gospel, and that is the only gospel that can save.  Believing the true gospel requires honesty with the Scriptures.  It also requires honesty when comparing what one believes to what the Bible says.  Knowing certain facts is not enough to save, not enough to make one a Christian.  But believing the gospel does.

                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                        Pastor Sutton
